Launching Pad into Further Development

Metal-Expo’2012, 18th International Industrial Exhibition was held on November 13-16 in Moscow. 728 companies from 35 world countries participated in the event and some 30k professionals in various industrial segments including construction, engineering, fuel and energy, transportation, logistics, steel trading etc. visited the exhibition.   

Participants of this annual event point out that opinions and information exchanges, as well as making new business contacts during Metal Week in Moscow were as always efficient. Visitors of Metal-Expo’2012 also noted high professionalism and competence of exhibitors and organizers of the event while majority of the exhibitors preliminary confirmed their participation in Metal-Expo’2013.

Such a grand event brought together leading steel companies, tubes and pipes works, hardware manufacturers, non-ferrous enterprises, aluminium rolled products and alloys manufacturers, builders, oil and gas producers, machine-builders, and representatives of other industries of the real sector of the economy. The whole range of ferrous and non-ferrous products, the most contemporary equipment and modern technologies were exhibited at Metal-Expo’2102. The 18 segments of the ferrous and non-ferrous industries represented at the exhibition also included MetallStroyForum’2012, the exposition for steel products and structures for construction, MetallurgMash’2012, the exposition for equipment and technologies for steel industry and metalworking, and MetallTransLogistik’2012, the exposition for transportation and logistics in the steel and mining industries. 

Leading steel companies and holdings, engineering solutions suppliers and equipment manufacturers, as well as the largest steel traders from Russian and more than 30 world countries participated in Metal-Expo’2012. ММК, ТМК, Severstal, Mechel,  Marcegaglia, UMMC Holding, ChTPZ Group, KUMZ, Metinvest-Holding, ArcelorMittal, Belorussion Steel Works, RHI, ОМК, Ruukki, Dneprospetsstal, OMZ-Speststal, VSMPO-Avisma, Outokumpu, Krasniy Oktyabr Plant, Interpipe, Centravis, GMH-Holding, Electrostal Steel Works, TechInvestStroy, Globus-Stal, Naberezhnye Chenly Tubes Works Tem-Po, Metallservis, Volgametcom, JSL Stainless, Agrisovgaz, Steelinvest, Schaeffler and many more ferrous and non-ferrous products manufacturers exhibited on big expositions.  Leading equipment manufacturers and engineering companies including SMS Group, Vesuvius, Siemens, Vernet-Behringer, MetalForme, Olimpia 80, LOI Thermprocess, Industrie Pu.Ma, Metso, Danieli, Gustav Erich Maschinenfabrik, VNIIMETMASH, ORMETO-YUMZ Heavy Engineering, Electrostal Engineering Works, Dneprotechservis, Reltec, Nakal, MEPC etc. presented the latest developments for all the segments of steel industry and metalworking. The biggest national expositions were Russian, German, Italian and Chinese.

More than 4 000 professionals and company leaders worked on the stands during the exhibition. The statistics provided by an independent auditing state that top managers and decision-makers account for 53% of the total number of Metal-Expo visitors. Metal-Expo is among a few Russian exhibitions CEOs and company leaders visit. It is a perfect platform for them to meet face to face with their customers, find new sales markets, discuss ways of cooperation with partners on materials, equipment and technologies supplies, as well as conclude rolled products purchase agreements. Thus, Stupino Steel Company held a conference on development of mutually beneficial cooperation with steel trading companies. It has become a good tradition for TMK to grand official dealer’s certificates at the exhibition specifying their suppliers in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic States. Uraltrubprom held a presentation of its new facilities while OMK discussed ways of cooperation with its customers during the presentation of Mill-5000 Metallurgical Complex.  EVRAZ met with its long and wire mesh products suppliers in Russia.  

Metal-Expo has become one of the main platforms for finding a consolidated strategy of all the steel market players. The congress part of the event included more than 50 conferences, round tables and presentations. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation held a workshop on implementation a Program on Mastering New Types and Improving Quality of Steel Products for the Automotive Industry for 2010-2015. Russian Union of Metal and Steel Suppliers held a meeting on issues of development of production and consumption of aluminium rolled products and sections in Russia. Many companies attended many events held during the Metal Week in Moscow including Russian Metal and Steel Market, Zinc: Corrosion Protection, Metal Construction: Dynamics of Development, New Promising Materials, Equipment and Technologies, Modern Technologies for Non-Ferrous Metals Production and Processing, IT for Steel Industry and Steel Trading as well as many more seminars, round tables and presentations covering all the aspects of the steel business.  

The total of more than 2 500 delegates representing steel producing, trading and processing companies, research institutions and engineering companies participated in the events of the Metal Week in Moscow. Steel producers and their partners analyzed the state of things in the industry and worked out the pattern of its further development. Many believe next year the market will remain sustainable however, launching of new facilities and simplification of approaching the Russian market due to Russia assessing WTO will steepen the competition.    

A ceremony of awarding winners of Main Event in the Russian Steel Industry’2012 contest was held for the second time during Metal-Expo. The contest is focused on support and popularization of innovative projects in the industry. Among the winners were 3 the most significant for the national steel industry projects including Uralelectromed which had completed implementation of the largest investment project on reconstruction of its copper refining facilities including building of a new anode furnace and a copper electrolysis plant with the capacity of 150kt/y. The project cost reached 4bn rubles. The second stage of cold rolling complex and a 2000 MMK mill galvanizing line were also among winners of the contest. The complex with the capacity of 2Mt/y will produce high quality cold-rolled and galvanized products using the most advanced technologies. The project cost reached 44.5bn rubles. The third winner was EVRAZ project on reconstruction of its rails and beams facilities. The project cost exceeded €400M.   

A number of companies were awarded Metal-Expo gold and silver medals for engineering and putting into operation the most state-of-the art equipment and technologies while 25 young scientists were awarded grants. Next year the young scientists’ fund will increase to 1M rubles. Since the qualified personnel issue is becoming one of the most pressing, Metal-Expo becomes a platform for engaging young professionals in the real segment of the economy. Among the contests held during Metal-Expo’2012 also were a contest for the best IT project among steel companies, Metal-Vision contest for the best video about the steel industry, the best corporate publication, the best implementation of steel and aluminium in construction and many more. Metal-Expo’2012 made it possible to engage scientific potential in the national steel industry.

During these four days Metal-Expo provides market players a perfect opportunity to find new sales markets, improve business relations with customers, find new customers, put their marketing strategies to the test, promote their brand-names, test new product lines, conclude new projects etc. Participants of Metal-Expo’2013 will also have an opportunity to estimate the state-of-things and make forecasts of future development of such segments of the economy as machine-building, fuel and energy complex, transportation, construction for they account for 54% of the total number of visitors. The exhibition covers many industry segments and each one compliments another. In the recent years Metal-Expo has grown due to participation of mining companies, steel structures manufacturers, steel service centers, as well as hipping and logistics companies. The exhibition will become for all market participants a launching pad into further development of their businesses and into approaching new markets.
