OMK Launches Anti-Corrosion Coatings Line for Rail Wheels

Russian manufacturer of railway wheels for high-speed traffic United Metallurgical Company OMK, a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor, has launched a new line for applying protective coatings to wheels at its Vyksa plant in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Now OMK is able to supply customers with products with various types of anti-corrosion coatings in accordance with the requirements of both the Russian and foreign markets. The line includes four state-of-the-art painting and drying chambers, which allow applying a wide range of paints and varnishes to wheels: one-component and two-component, various viscosities (including high-viscosity noise-absorbing ones), water-soluble and based on organic solvents. The chambers are equipped with a highly efficient air filtration and purification system, which makes the painting process environmentally friendly. The automation system provides control of key parameters of the technological process, as well as the traceability of each wheel - from its task on the line to the issuance of finished products with a coating. The system for holding the wheel during the painting process allows you to adjust the speed of the wheel, which contributes to obtaining a high quality coating.

Taking into account the requirements for paint coatings and the capabilities of the line, OMK specialists have developed a technology for applying anti-corrosion coatings to railway wheels. Now they are qualifying the process of painting wheels for the Lastochka and Sapsan electric trains.

OMK has the only modern automated line in the country for the production and acceptance of wheels for high-speed and high-speed traffic. It was launched at OMK's Vyksa plant in 2014. OMK supplies high-tech railway wheels for Lastochka high-speed electric trains (design speed up to 160 km/h).
