NLMK Plans New Waste Energy Recovery Power Plant

NLMK Lipetsk, a global steel company, a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor has embarked on the development of project documentation and site preparation for the construction of a new recovery power plant running on by-product gases from steelmaking operations. The power plant will have a capacity of 300 MW. NLMK Group plans to invest 35 billion roubles into the project. The project will enable a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 650,000 tonnes per year. The construction of a new recovery power plant running on by-product gases from steelmaking operations is in line with industry BAT’s and advances the objective of Russia’s national Clean Air initiative as part of The Environment project.

Approximately 50% of all energy consumed at NLMK is generated using secondary resources. Blast furnace gas and coke gas, by-products of blast furnace and coke oven battery operations, are used as fuel.
